Objective: OBJ-NEURO-CP-001
A 2-year-old boy is brought to the emergency department after a generalized tonic-clonic seizure that lasted about 3 minutes. After the event, he is drowsy but arousable and responds appropriately to his parents. He has had 1 day of fever with runny nose and sore throat. There is no prior history of seizures, neurologic disease, or developmental delay. His father had “febrile convulsions” as a child. On examination, he has nasal congestion and an erythematous pharynx; no neck stiffness, focal neurologic deficits, or persistent altered mental status are present. Vital signs: T 39.0°C, BP 92/56 mmHg, HR 136/min, RR 28/min, SpO2 98% on room air. Parents ask what should be done next.
