Some Discomfort in Surgery — 7yo Child | Orthopedics | SMLE Q#1282

SMLE Question #1282

Surgery Orthopedics
A 7-year-old boy is brought to the clinic by his parents because of a 2-day history of right hip and groin pain causing a mild limp. He had a self-limited upper respiratory tract infection 1 week ago. He is able to bear weight with some discomfort. He has no fever, appears well, and is playful. On examination, there is mild limitation of internal rotation of the right hip but no erythema, warmth, or swelling. Laboratory tests show normal white blood cell count and C-reactive protein. Hip ultrasound demonstrates a small joint effusion without adjacent bone changes. What is the most likely diagnosis?
