A 24-year-old primigravid woman at 40 weeks’ gestation has been in active labour for 9 hours. On admission, the cervix was 5 cm dilated, 80% effaced, and the fetal head was at +1 station. For the last 5 hours, contractions have been regular every 3 minutes and last about 60 seconds, with no further change in cervical dilation, effacement, or station. Membranes are ruptured and the fetal heart rate tracing is reassuring. What is the most appropriate next step in management?
