An 8-month-old boy has had recurrent otitis media since 4 months of age, several skin abscesses growing Staphylococcus aureus, chronic foul-smelling loose stools, and poor weight gain despite adequate feeding. He has had no severe viral infections. Examination shows underweight status without fever, lymphadenopathy, or hepatosplenomegaly. There is no relevant family history.
