A 30-year-old sexually active woman has 1 year of recurrent dysuria, urinary frequency, and suprapubic discomfort. She has had four urine culture-confirmed episodes of uncomplicated cystitis. Between episodes she has no fever, flank pain, or vaginal discharge. Symptoms reliably start within 24 hours after sexual intercourse.
