A 33-year-old G2P1 woman at 27 weeks’ gestation presents with painful, regular uterine contractions every 5 minutes for 3 hours. She has no vaginal bleeding or fluid leakage. Fetal movements are normal. Examination shows cervix 6 cm dilated, 80% effaced, and fetal head at −1 station; membranes are intact and cardiotocography is reassuring.
