A previously healthy 3-year-old boy choked while eating popcorn and developed sudden coughing. The coughing has decreased, but he has persistent wheeze. He is alert and interactive. Exam shows decreased air entry and prominent wheeze on the right with normal breath sounds on the left. Chest radiograph shows right-sided hyperinflation with mediastinal shift to the left, without consolidation or pleural effusion. What is the most appropriate next step in management?
