A 55-year-old man has vague epigastric discomfort. Upper endoscopy shows a 4 × 3 cm submucosal mass in the gastric body. Biopsy with immunohistochemistry is consistent with a gastrointestinal stromal tumor and is KIT (CD117) positive. Contrast-enhanced CT of the abdomen and pelvis shows the lesion confined to the stomach with no distant metastases or pathologic lymph nodes. He has no major comorbidities. What is the most appropriate next step in management?
