A 3-year-old child is brought to the clinic with 2 days of high-grade fever and sore throat. Parents noticed a new diffuse rash since this morning. On exam, the child has erythematous pharynx with tonsillar exudates and tender anterior cervical lymph nodes. A diffuse erythematous, "sandpaper-like" rash is present on the trunk and extremities. A rapid antigen detection test for group A streptococcus is positive.
