An 8-year-old boy is brought to the emergency department with 2 days of fever, headache, and sore throat. He has decreased oral intake due to throat pain but is otherwise healthy and fully immunized. On examination, his temperature is 39.0 °C, BP 100/65 mmHg, HR 105/min, RR 20/min, and SpO2 99% on room air. Oropharyngeal exam shows enlarged erythematous tonsils with white exudates and pharyngeal petechiae. There is tender enlargement of both anterior and posterior cervical as well as submandibular lymph nodes; no hepatosplenomegaly or rash is noted. A rapid antigen detection test for group A Streptococcus is negative. What is the most appropriate next step in management?
